Cia Criatividança was a remarkable project that lasted an impressive 16 years, skillfully directed and choreographed by the talented David Rodrigues. The company was originally established in Brasília and made its mark by extending its artistic influence to several other vibrant cities across Brazil. The groundbreaking work of the company became widely recognized for its boldness, innovation, and creativity. Despite the lack of a permanent space for rehearsals, the company thrived and, in its final years of operation, found a significant home within the Universidade Católica de Brasília (UCB) as part of the inspiring project "Culture on Campus."
Throughout its illustrious 16-year journey, the company proudly created a total of eight original shows, each possessing a distinct and captivating identity, which reached thousands of audience members. Additionally, they crafted numerous choreographies for various esteemed festivals and events where the company was honored to perform as a guest. Committed to addressing social issues, artistic director Davi Rodrigues implemented a compassionate initiative that allowed audience members to receive a generous 50% discount on tickets if they contributed by donating nonperishable food items. This thoughtful gesture not only enabled the company to bring the beauty of dance to all sectors of society but also benefitted local institutions and nursing homes through the donations collected during performances.
Operating without any external funding, the company managed to thrive and survive thanks to the unwavering dedication, passion, and love for the art shared by the director, dancers, and volunteers. Criatividança gained widespread recognition for its impactful work throughout Brazil and even reached international acclaim with invitations to perform in the cities of Bogotá, Colombia, and Madrid, Spain, at the prestigious Contemporary Dance Festival organized by Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. Furthermore, select pieces from their repertoire were reassembled and presented in Vancouver, Canada. The company concluded its significant journey when artistic director and choreographer Davi Rodrigues moved to Vancouver in 2008, where he has since made his home. In 2009, the company joyfully reunited to perform "Bambula - A Love Story," marking a heartfelt continuation of their artistic legacy.
